Delicious Mexican food! The fajitas were so good! We got them with steak and shrimp, the steak was tasty and and so tender! I recommend this spot for some great Mexican food in San Pedro!

Ok so Puesta Del Sol is located right on Gaffey in San Pedro. Great little restaurant. Ambiance is totally casual and they even have a small stage for live musica sometimes. Now then, some winners here: the Jalepeno Margarita is excellent, great heat mixed with that lime-i-ness and booozzze, it's a must. Good beer selection. Chips and salsa are really good here as well. The mini beef burritos are awesome, I get them all the time but they are also perfect for kids. Ablsolute best dish here is the chicken fajitas. Some of the best fajitas I've ever had. Staff is friendly and haven't met the owner but the owner's assistant Derek is way cool just met him today. If you like good mex it's here, do it!!!

I was craving enchiladas, and used yelp to find me a place in San Pedro. As always, yelpers came through! It was a little hard to find. Its literally located on the corner of 17th and Gaffey, across the street from a Valero gas station, and tucked away in a little strip mall. We came on a Monday night, and found parking toward the end of the strip mall. There's also street parking if the lot fills up. Upon walking in, you spy the bar on the right, and to the left is an open dining area with booths and tables covered in colored vinyl table cloths, neon signs, and various cervesa murals covering the walls. We were seated at a booth near, what appears to be the karaoke stage, and the booths have seen better days, and there's big tvs strategically placed throughout the restaurant. I knew from the yelp reviews that service would be hit or miss, and so I wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly, were served our chips and salsa promptly, and our drink order was taken promptly as well. So far, so good. A different person came to take our order, and the food took about 20 minutes. We even had our diet cokes refilled without asking. I ordered the 2 item combo ($9.95): A chicken enchilada and a pork tamal covered in a green tomatillo sauce. Yelpers said they serve an excellent enchilada, and I have to agree, they were delicious! The tamal was good, with chunks of pork, but the enchilada was much better. Beans were creamy and the rice was a little mushy, but still good. Stephen had the mole enchilada ($11.95), and it had just the right consistency, and the right sweetness. He polished off his plate, and said as he continued eating, the heat of the mole got progressively warmer. I have to say, this place is pretty good. Nothing fancy, and a bit loud, but families seem to like coming here, and the room was mostly Latinos, which for me, is a good sign. Its like going to an asian restaurant, and finding no asians, you know? I'd like to give their Menudo a try next time.. or, stick to the enchiladas, as I thought they were THAT good... like having a comfort meal at abuelita's kitchen.

Had the green chicken enchiladas and a margarita late after work 8PM. Starting throwing up by 10 PM. Never, never have I been so sick in my life. Felt much better after I threw everything up. Food poisoning ????

Going on a Friday or Saturday night it's really cool because they have karaoke night and people have so much fun just going up there and sing. The food it's fine like any normal place nothing really special. I have this place three stars because many times I tried ordering a certain drink and the bartenders looked at each other and didn't know what I was talking about or didn't know how to make it which is whack to me!!

Just changed my review from 4 stars to 5. I returned for lunch today with my mom and not only was the food excellent, it came with speedy and attentive service. I previously only gave 4 stars because I thought the service started to lag towards the last half of the meal and we felt a bit ignored last time I was here. This time was the opposite. Very good prices as well.

On a lazy Monday (it was MLK, Jr. Day) we felt like Mexican food for dinner, but rather than head over to La Capilla in Torrance we decided to try someplace new, and found Puesta Del Sol using Yelp. It's located right on the corner of Gaffey and 17th, but we overshot the place since the restaurant's colorful sign faces south. The parking lot isn't very large and is shared with other businesses, but there were two or three spots available when we arrived at about 7 PM. The complimentary chips & salsa were good, and I liked that the salsa was heavy on the cilantro. My girlfriend ordered a combo plate with an enchilada and a tamale, and I got the chicken mole enchilada plate. These plates come with Spanish rice and either refried or black beans; we both got the refried beans and will try the black beans next time. My girlfriend liked the enchilada but wasn't that fond of the tamale. I liked my chicken mole enchiladas a lot. The mole had a very nice flavor, but wasn't overly spicy. It did have a bit of a kick, but was nowhere as spicy as the mole at La Capilla. The Spanish rice was fluffy and the refried beans were nice and thick, not runny at all. Everything was good, and the food didn't suffer from that generic sameness you sometimes experience at other Mexican restaurants. Service was good, if a bit slow. We waited a while for our food, and then again for the check after we'd finished eating. But our server was friendly came by and refilled our sodas without asking.

I still remember when i was younger and i used to be here almost everyday when it was Baja cabana Then it became Puesta del sol and we stop going cuz the food wasnt the same anymore We went couple months ago by a recomendation of a friend of mine and it turned out pretty good We started with queso fundido with chorizo and mushrooms , wings , he had mole and i had their menudo , we both liked it , my pinia colada could of use a little bit more alcohol but no biggie We for sure we'll be back

Amazing! I read the good reviews and went for it! I had the guac and the nachos supreme pollo. Plenty of cold Modelo and Victoria on tap too! Another must when I'm in San Pedro. Enjoy!

    (4)
  • Jill B.

This restaurant was recommended by a local. Sadly, the whole experience was less than stellar. The food was just so-so and the guac was nothing to rave about. The only plus was the constant refills of chips and salsa as we waited nearly an hour for our food.

Wish I could have tasted the food but we never made it that far.... Took way to long, our bellies ran us out of there!

We are regulars here, and when I say regular I mean my husband orders from puesta at least once per week! Yes, we love everything from the chicken mole enchiladas, carne asada nachos, wings and burger, yes you read it right! The wings are the best hot wings I've had in my life! As far as going there, service is great, friendly people, karaoke nights, dancing, full bar and awesome margaritas, my favorite being the mango one! Try this place for take out or just for a night out, you will definitely thank yourself!

Food is good , karaoke is great but service is poor, waiters don't come to your table often, we actually needed to call them.

Decided to invite my family for a cinco de Mayo evening and enjoy some drinks and food. We got there around 8:15 and got seated 15 minutes after. After ordering our drinks we wanted to start with some appetizers that never came after 45 minutes. I drew the line and requested my check. The waitress rejected to give us our bill and told me the food was almost out. After waiting another ten minutes, I decided to get up and walk up to the front to collect my bill where I was informed they were having issues in the kitchen. They put the bill on the house for the drinks but it wasn't enough to justify for our planned evening. At 9:50 we ended up walking to El Gallito taco truck for some tacos and quesadillas which were ready in 5 minutes. Very disappointed with the service I received at Puesto del Sol.

I have eaten at the restaurant many times and the food is good. Recently after having my second child I have been ordering food for delivery a lot. I try to order from different places, so I decided to order delivery instead of going to the restaurant. I was sadly disappointed that I will not order delivery from here again. I just can't justify the 3.00 delivery charge, I live less then a mile away so it doesn't cost 3 dollars to deliver it. Even with gas at 3.60 a gallon, unless they are delivery my meal in a a Big Rig. There are many other Mexican food places that deliver free of charge with a minimum purchase, which makes sense, Burrito Factory and San Pedro Taco for example deliver free of charge. So I will be ordering from those places, sorry Puesto, its a competitive world out there get with the game.

Inexpensive establishment and the wait staff is extremely attentive. We had a party of 5 and our bill collectively was $80.44 before tip. That was with 3 Margaritas and two draft beers!!! I am only going to speak on what I ordered, (the lobster enchiladas con arroz y frijoles with a chorizo y papas taco on the side)... FREAKING UNBELIEVABLE!!! That said, the others in my party (wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter) all thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well... Plenty of chips and salsa to start you off with too :-) This was only our second time here but man was it worth it. As long as they keep performing at this level, we will definitely come back again and again. Some have said the area is "sketchy" but I grew up in here in this area of SP (actually lived across Gaffey street behind the Valero station as a young man) so I didn't feel the least bit unsafe or uncomfortable.

Awesome. Ate there for lunch today and by far it's the best authentic Mexican food I've had in the OC/Long Beach/San Pedro area (except for Pancho's in Long Beach which is also amazing service and food wise but a little less ambiance and no TVs). The server was super nice and attentive. They had on the Women's World Cup on the TVs. Had the carnitas brunch entree and my wife had the chile relleno brunch entree. 2 free glasses of champagne came with each brunch entree. Seriously delicious. Great service, great food. Highly recommend. I'll be back. Good salsa too. I asked for a spicy salsa and they delivered. Love it.

Went back to try it again . Still sucks who still uses sour mix in a margarita, ? What is this 1987? Server was nice

Puesta Del Sol is a great, authentic Mexican restaurant located in central San Pedro. My girlfriend, Lina, & I went here after hiking Trump Trails in Rancho Palos Verdes. Our server was a cute, young man who was attentive and friendly. The prices and portions here are really something to write about. You will leave here with a happy belly and a happy wallet. I ordered the 3 item combination plate with 2 carne asada hard shelled tacos, 1 chicken enchilada, beans & rice. My friend ordered the carne asada plate. Both plates were delicious. We also had a pitcher of margaritas & an appetizer of guacamole. All this for only $20.50 each! What a deal. I go out for Mexican often... it may be a margarita addiction, or maybe just that melted cheesy goodness, but I do know that this has to be the best deal around for a sit down Mexican restaurant. I will definitely be coming back! P.S. They're open late! Always a plus.

Love this place. I was just telling my friends how Carne Asada ALWAYS sucks at restaurants because there's nothing like homemade. Well, I was wrong. Carne Asada nachos were amazing! Karaoke. Hispanic music. Great prices for drinks. And Keith is the most amazing and friendly bartender around. When he's not there you can find Pedro there who is equally as friendly. This place just rules. I HATE GOING ANYWHERE IN SAN PEDRO. This is the one exception.

  • Jessica G.

This place doesn't even deserve one star. The only reason why it has a star is because I was forced to rate it before posting anything. The manager was so rude. And service was awful. I've been here before and again, this place has really bad service. I suggest no one comes.... And as you can see it doesn't have very good reviews.

Dang! San Pedro you found me a Mucho Macho Omelette! We came here for breakfast and I've ordered their Mucho Macho Omelette topped with red sauce on one side and green sauce on the other, cheese also sour cream and guacamole. My sides came with rice and fried beans. Though the omelette was dense, I didn't want to leave any left overs behind and the salsa or the chili sauces helped me finished my plate because they meshed well. We did get more bang for our buck here, due to an early breakfast meal that came with free champagnes and we opted to make them mimosas. You get complementary Nachos with salsas while you wait for your entrees and complementary cream puffs before you checkout. Overall service here was excellent and our server was very friendly. I left here very stuffed from morning and afternoon.

Again, I don't like leaving bad reviews, but you should strive to make every experience great every day. I arrived at 8 on a Saturday, so I understand it's gonna be busy, but please staff appropriately. They had 2 servers for a full house. Entered the restaurant and approached the desk to be seated where we stood for 10-15 minutes never being addressed nor acknowledged. We were finally approached by a server who pointed to a table and told us to go sit there. We did, but were not given menus so just sat there waiting another 15-20 minutes before another server finally approached. After placing our order we had to wait about 45 minutes for our food which was not what we ordered. I may have given this place a second chance, but I wasn't even impressed the food to make me want to return.

Everything was decent, except for the service. The service was great. The food was decent. Not great, but not bad. Call me crazy but, if I have to add salt to everything...in a Mexican restaurant...there's a problem. The rice was overcooked, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. The smells coming from the kitchen are awesome, so I'm sure they do some things good. I just haven't discovered them. I think I'm willing to give em another try though.

Today was the first time ordering from here. Not a good experience. I ordered on line I had specified for my child's fiesta platter Sour cream and guacamole on side and NO in all caps NO pico de gallo. That plate came with everything smothered on top pico de gallo and to top it off sliced jalapenos. For my husbands plate he's lactose intolerant I wrote Please NO CHEESE on this plate. of course the beans were loaded with cheese. I called them right away to let them know my order was all wrong. So they sent the driver back picked up my food after I had initially waited 45 minutes, He told me he'd be right back he was so embarrassed poor kid, He came back 25 mins later. My biggest gripe was they could have just brought me a new order because they probably had to throw it away or comp me a dessert or something. Bad management decisions. Too bad the food was good, I just which my first time experience would have gone better.

Excellent happy hour from 3-6pm, I think its on all the week days. You can only get the happy hour deals up front in the bar area. Anyway its $2.50 for draft beer, 4 dollar well drinks and $2.75 house margaritas The food is decent and ranges from $3 for 2 tacos to $2.75 mulitas ( kinda like a mini quesadilla, two tortillas that are griddled and then stuffed with cheese and meat) $2 sopes. They also give you a fresh basket of warm tortilla chips and salsa when you sit down and order. The drinks are cheap and the food is great for the price. Definitely one of the best deals for happy hour around. The staff is also very nice and attentive. I did not try their entrees.

WONDERFUL!! This is a really charming, full-service restaurant. The food is delicious, made from scratch and offers a variety of choices. One of my favorite dinners is the combination RIBEYE served with lobster enchiladas (yes, I did say LOBSTER enchiladas). I prefer my entree with their mixed vegetables which are sautéed to perfection in butter and light garlic. You can also choose refried beans, or black beans, and rice. The lobster enchiladas are made from scratch and are encased in corn or flour tortillas (your choice) and covered with a light, creamy sauce. The ribeye is charbroiled and always prepared to perfection. There is a full service bar so you can have any cocktail you desire, including delicious margaritas. The staff are incredible, and work together as a well-oiled customer-pleasing machine. They are genuinely nice, gracious and efficient. The manager, Estefan, makes sure that you have a great dining experience. FURTHERMORE, they have Karaoke on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. This is fun for the entire family. You will find that many family events are booked at Puesta as they can accommodate pretty large parties. Just call ahead to book your party. I am fortunate to live close to Puesta del Sol--I can enjoy a wonderful meal, great Karaoke entertainment and have only a few blocks to drive home. Check out their menu where you will find authentic Mexican entrees that you won't find at other places (e.g. molcajetes, queso fondito, tequila shrimp, Camarones al mojo de ajo (shrimp cooked in butter and garlic). Many local families make Puesta del Sol their choice for dining out.

4 stars because Aleah & Brian finally found a good Mexican restaurant in San Pedro...the son always says, there are so many Mexican restaurants in Pedro...you think at least one of them would be good....well, he found it! I'm still partial to my hometown faves but when in SP we'll now have a place to go. They do serve dishes that you do not normally see in the typical Mexican restaurant such as chicken mole enchiladas...Brian's favorite. Chips and salsa were definitely above average and the wait staff was genuine, friendly and attentive in just the right way. I hear they have an amazing happy hour with margarita's at just $2.75 oh and looking at their website...karaoke? Really? I'm down for that next trip!!!

This place has always been a hit or miss on service. Well tonight was a big, big miss!! They weren't that busy but still took over 10 minutes just to get our drinks!! Then it went bad!! I ordered a tamale with my meal only to get 2 enchilada's. When I asked for a tamale the waiter got in my face and said "IT WAS A TAMALE",,,,what tamale looks like an enchilada??? He was very rude and stayed in my face telling me I was wrong!!! We will not be going back!! And we have been telling this story to our friends and they will not go there again!!! I truly hope the owners read this review, they need to know just how bad we were treated. Our waiter was a tall thin Mexican guy, and when we asked to speak to the manager he said "he was the manager "??? To make matters worse, our order was late, cold( my hard shell taco was soft and chewy) had to ask twice for more salsa. We go out every Friday night for dinner to relax, THIS PLACE IS OFF OUR LIST!!!!!!!!

This place is easy to find and has great parking and the prices are fair. I have been here twice so far and the food was ok. We ordered Chile Verde burritos (Too hot) and Chicken enchiladas. The Quac is good and the chips I recall were ok after I salted them. I forget about the salsa. So won't comment. The place is nothing special in the looks dept and their Cadillac Margarita was way too strong and yukky tasting and we could barely drive home after one of them so they lose a star on that as the cocktail is key and they lose another star as every time I try and give them a ring they do not understand what I am saying or trying to order and that gets old after awhile. So old I may not be back. But yeah the food itself and service (if they understand you) more than once they did not-is just ok with the Chile Verde being inedible for over spice.

Went on a weekday. Although the staff was courteous, the service was poor. They were under staffed and seating, drink orders, food orders, serving and bill was extremely delayed. Waitress was trying her best; it was unfair to her and the customer that there wasn't enough wait staff. The food was mediocre. I ordered a shrimp Cocktail. It was bland; watery. They took it back to the kitchen, but it came out in the same condition. Very disappointing after such a long wait.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in town , try the Chicharrones Jalisco to start , ask for the green salsa . I like it better than the red . Best steak fajitas, Grilled fish or street tacos for dinner . Friendly crew although one waitress drives me nuts . Manny the manager is awesome . Keith and Pedro the bartenders are great and Lilia and a Juan are simply the Best .

CHIPS/SALSA: really good .. bowls a little too bowl.. ha! SHRIMP TACO: this was just meh.. way too loaded with lettuce. tomatoes STEAK & CHICKEN FAJITAS: this was ok.. the meat was a little too charred for my taste... I did like that it was loaded with onions and bell peppers Our waitress was good.. but our food took over an hour... and the restaurant was that crowded. Too bad.. bc would've definitely come back for the menudo...

Wazzzzzzzzzzaaaaaappppppppp!!!!!!??? Puesta del sol is pretty much my go to for brunch. You really can't beat the price for the quality of food that you are getting here. I usually get the Chile Colorado con Chile Verde. Thats right you can order a plate with BOTH!!! top it off with a cold Victoria, which happens to be one of my favorite beers. Also, did I mention they have it on tap for $4?!!! do yourself a favor people. Treat yo selfs!!!

I had only been here for the drinks but I decided to try it out in food department.I was surprised how good it was.I thought it was gonna be the same as all the other places that throw melted cheddar on everything ,but I tried the chicken mole enchiladas and they were great! The beans had queso fresco and not cheddar goo.The Mole tasted like Mole. Also I had a fish taco and it was delicious. This place is solid. P.s the Mango margaritas are the best.

So while looking for an alternative to our long time favorite, The Riviera Grill, we found our way here. First off, Awesome food with a distinctive flavor all their own ! Delicious. The service was awsome. They have a full bar. comfortable spread out seating. TVs everywhere if you want to watch a game. The price of food was great. Drinks were poured heavy. easy easy parking. Everything great in every regard !!!!! Sorry "Riv" it looks like were moving on, no offense and not because of any failing on your part but change can be good.

Will never return to this place! I came here for Father's Day with my family and they really ruined it for us. It took someone about 5 minutes to approach us to get seated, then it took time for someone to take our drink orders ( only soda and water). It started to feel like service was gonna be slow but didn't imagine it would take over an hour to get food. Never found out how long exactly since we told them we were leaving because wait time was too long! They said it was coming out but decided to leave anyway since they never kept us updated on our status of food or apologized for the wait. It seemed like they didn't care. We walked out after another table waiting over an hour decided to also walk out. Terrible Service. Wait time is way too long. We ended up at the taco truck across the street from this place.

Taco Tuesday last night was a big win: two stuffed 6" tacos and a draft beer for $7.95. Actually enough meat for three tacos. If you think of it as three "low-carb" tacos for $1.99 each and a $2 draft, it's a pretty good deal. I had "tempura shrimp," which was not really tempura, just normal battered, but again, packed in there more than I would do even if I made them myself. Oil seemed either too hot or too old, but still good. Hold the pink sauce next time. Might also swap in a potato taco instead. Wife got the three smaller "street" tacos. Carnitas was killer: sweet and savory.

A personal favorite of mine in town! They're open late on weekends and do karaoke, which rules because we don't have a lot of late night food options in Pedro. I looooove the chile colorado, but I have never tried anything here that I didn't like. Prices are very reasonable and the wait staff is really nice.

After last nights visit n saying this will be my last visit ...... definitely ! I feel that the manager or who ever schedules the waitresses should be accountable for the bad review ! They know their busiest nights are Friday - Monday n with margarita Monday they should be prepared to have a extra waitress on hand ! Very upset I will not be back not . No complaints on food just horrible service !

We stumbled upon this little gem when we were in San Pedro for a Yelp event. The place itself was cute and cozy. The workers were really friendly and took care in to making sure you had everything you needed. We ordered two enchiladas and a carne asada burrito, and oh my god it was the best enchiladas I have ever had. It was drowned in cheese and red sauce and tasted like heaven in my mouth. The beans were a little runny for my taste, and the rice was not as flavorful as I expected them to be, but it didn't matter because the enchiladas made up for everything. The portions are generous for the price, and it didn't cost more than thirty dollars for the two of us to feel stuffed. Definitely coming back whenever we're in town again.

They lost a star for a couple of reasons. The service the last 2 times have been realllllly sloooooow. The excuse is that they have "big parties" here and they will be "slow in the kitchen". And trust me, it was a long wait. And I called and made reservations another time and requested a booth..No problem...I thought. We got there and when I gave them our name all I got was a blank look. Soooo, we waited for the booth that I had made reservations for. And the chips have been stale. I mean, come on. Okay, what would you rather deal with ? Good food but lousy service OR lousy service but good food. Craving Mexican food but we are hesitant to go there again. Suggestions anyone?

Best place I've been in SP so far. Order the pitcher of margaritas and they brought out glasses with the pitcher that were already full which I've never seen! Girlfriend promptly spilled hers and they refilled it, Craziness! Great food and our service has always been perfect.

The food is okay actually the only thing I really like from here is the Queso Fondido but I will come here just for that! It's warm ooey-gooey cheese in a stone pot that you eat with a warm tortilla. Need I say more?

Apparently when your food is good its okay to have bad service. I've been here 6 times and every visit is the same thing, great food and bad service. My fiance and I took some time away from this place but decided to give it another shot tonight, bad choice. We ordered two appetizers and they took about 25 minutes to bring them out. I could maybe understand if it was packed but about half of their tables were open. To make it worse, we sat another ten minutes with our finished plates in front of us before someone came to clear the table. It sucks because they have good food and no other Mexican restaurant in Pedro serves queso fundido. Oh well, I'd rather go to green onion and get good service even though they're missing my favorite plate.

Best Mexican food around for miles! They have the best menudo. The food is so authentic that even my Mexican grandma loved it. And that is a compliment coming from her.

Want a place you can roll into four the fourth quarter of theLaker game? Not only will they out it on, but the bartender will ask if you want him to turn up the sound. Good salsa here & Pacifico on tap. Orale!

Great mexican style restaurant. service was speedy and friendly. Continuously checked for refils on drinks. Food came from kitchen quickly, and tasted great. Couldn't ask for anything better for the price.

Happy to have found another really good Mexican food restaurant in our area. Had dinner here for the first time recently and was impressed. Really yummy food - everything we had was great. My barometer by which I always judge a new Mexican restaurant is a cheese enchilada and a chicken or beef hard shell taco..so that's what I had. The cheese enchilada is one of the best I have ever had! The taco was crunchy and jam packed full of yummy chicken and toppings. The guys had a wet burrito and flautas and they both loved them. The chips and salsa were great - the first round of salsa was two bowls of the same but later a different, more spicy bowl showed up. Hmmmm. I didn't drink that night (shocking, I know) but the guys enjoyed their traditional margaritas. The service was just right. No complaints. Another reviewer mentioned the clientele and the neighborhood. That part of San Pedro isn't the best but it is not the worst either...certainly nothing to be nervous about. It was an odd assortment of diners for sure...ranging from Mexicans to blue-hairs to dock workers to us average whiteys. No biggie. We LOVE The Riviera Grill in Hermosa Beach (their grilled fish tacos can't be beat) but when we don't want to drive 20 minutes for great Mexican food we will DEF be coming here instead! In fact, I would rather come here for the cheese enchiladas - yum-o!

Delicious food and good margaritas. Friendly servers. That said, I would pay more, and eat worse quality food, rather than return, because the location is so sketchy that we started talking about how much martial arts experience we had and realized it would not be good enough. The clientele (on a weekend at 7 or 8pm) was all either tough elderly folk (reminded me of the more revered members of TV-version mafia members) or Bruce-Willis-in-The-Whole-Nine-Yards lookalikes. We kept our belongings under the table, paid in cash, and left via taxi.

The service was speedy and the food was decent. I came on a Sunday night so I didnt get to experience any of the cool specials...next time I'll shoot for a monday. I got the chicken mole enchiladas. They were okay... my food was a bit dry and i was hoping for some nice moist chicken coated in a tasty mole. Mole was more spicy than sweet, and decent.

Wonderful service. Tasty food. We went on a lazy Sunday and we ordered margarita pitchers and they were more than generous with them. Food was fresh and Lilia is the best server! Loved it!

Salsa has way too much cilantro and wasn't that good :( Fajitas, however, were amazing

Like Will said, great happy hour! M-F, 4-6. $5.25 for a house margarita (stiff one at that) AND a handmade, generously portioned sope (can't even find them anywhere else in town). Aside from happy hour, nice little neighborhood spot with a full bar and good food. Karaoke on weekends. Service can be a little slow, but the food is worth it.

This food is delicious...the street tacos were so good...the carne asada meat is very tender and tasty. The enchilada sauce is very good and not sweet like most places. Also the service was great! You must give this place a try! Flan is the best!!!!

Worst place ever!! So rude, get billed for all drinks at the bar that weren't even mine! Wasn't it easy to see that I was pregnant and I didn't get near the bar once and I ordered an horchata for god sakes!! But whatever she was , she was so rude and pointing at me saying I had to pay she was so rude and embarrassing me, it felt really personal! I just wanted to go and have fun watch a few friends sing Karaoke , but instead got really mistreated here !! On top it all I was pregnant and very sensitive and believe me I was 8 months pregnant , so you could tell I was! This happened a while ago but I'm so traumatized!! And pissed off!! it's good that u can put reviews but I can't stand this place and that woman who owns it or runs the place is the one who did this all to me!! I believe the drinks that she mistaken me was a group of friends I went with and they were going to pay it but she was all no she has to pay it, on top added extra stuff we never ordered!! So unprofessional and food sucks!!! Don't go and waste money in this place there are others places in San Pedro that are great!!! This would get no stars, but u need a star to review

I haven't been here in years & I was pleasantly surprised by the place. Laminate floors in the 1st dining area gave it a clean feeling. Simple but varied menu options. Reasonable prices. Very pleasant waitress & her supporting staff. Good food. The only reason I take one star off is because we waited so long for dinner, I had to pack most to go because we didn't expect it to take over an hour to grab some tacos & a tamale. But even with the wait, still very warm, delicious food & pleasant surroundings so I would give it another chance for a 5th star.

So after reading some of these reviews, I felt it necessary to make one of my own. I've been coming here since 2005 when I decided to go to school just up the hill and found that everyone here was pretty awesome with food that was part of our top 5 restaurants. It's never dirty, greasy and we don't ever have reason to complain. I've brought so many people here and they've all loved it! And if you think that neighborhood is sketchy?... Than wow, don't go further down and def don't go drivin through Compton... It's not all that bad, it's literally right down the street from the beach and with all the times I've been there, I've not once had a problem. Now, with that said, let's talk about the food. I have left tips before about it and my fav dish is the pollo cabana w black beans, absolutely delish w a side of guacamole! To the people who say it's too salty? Umm... No... U just have some bland tastes... Because I'm pretty sure you're the only one who thinks so... The only plate I do NOT recommend getting is the mole... Not all that=\.. anywho, if you ever have any question Or problem, see Pedro or Clara. They are the best and have made us feel at home since I've moved there! Hope this helps and enjoy! Oh yes! Be sure to stop by for karaoke, it's always so much fun!

Been here at least fhree times with friends for margaritas. First off, the margaritas are okay but I'm not a tequila fan so I avoid them. My main issue is their food, which I've had every time I've went and its always been salty and otherwise flavorless. I'll stick to making my own authentic Mexican food and leave the fake stuff to places like Puesta Del Sol.

This place changed hands a few years back and boy what a difference!! This place rocks!! We went on Tuesday and got the street taco special carnitas style. Meat was tender and the salsa is fresh. My wife got the Chile Verde burrito. Easily the best in town...that pork was to die for. we've been back several other times and all of their dishes have been great. I'm glad to finally tell people that we have a great Mexican restaurant in town...Puesta Del Sol!!

Food is really good, so are drinks. We've been to Puesta del Sol several times (maybe 8?), and always for dinner & margaritas. I was pretty sure the food was good, but because the drinks & company was definitely good, I didn't actually remember the food. Ah, but THIS time I had left overs which I ate for lunch the next day & I can accurately report that THE FOOD IS GREAT. I've never had anything bad here. Good guacamole, fish tacos, enchiladas, salsa, everything. Margaritas are "variable" and may come in different kinds of glassware, but you can count on them to be good. About the only thing I don't like is karaoke nights. I'm not a karaoke fan, so if I happen to be there on one of those nights, I'll ask for a table as far from the stage as I can get. YMMV. I usually go with several friends, and it's usually a great place to get a table and talk, even though it is not a quiet place, you can still talk. There are TVs in the place, but happily, the sound is off so you can talk with your friends. There is a decent parking lot. Service is good to great, and we always have a nice time when we have dinner out at Puesta Del Sol.

I have been to Puesta Del Sol many times. About 2 months ago I had a very nice champagne Sunday brunch with friend. I think I had the enchilada omelette and it was yummy, service was ok, and champagne made visit super nice. But unfortunately, recently I have been noticing its decline in service and quality. Last visit about 3 weeks ago was probably my last. I went with the same friend I always go with, sat in same area, and was served by same bartender. Although, this time he seemed zoned out and got our drinks wrong even though we always order the same things with him. When he corrected his mistake, we had wipe up some spillage left behind from when the glass was sat down too hard. Then that was the last we saw of him or anyone else for the rest of our visit even though they were not busy at all that night. I think we will try Acapulcos happy hour for our next "girls time out".

We love this place :) I don't think I would review a place negatively, or that didn't deserve 5 stars, but I notice EVERYTHING when I eat out and usually pick a place apart. After having done that here, I have nothing to say that isn't positive. We've only been twice..a Tuesday for lunch and a Saturday dinner but both times were with in this past week and we were really happy both times. First time I had the ceviche tostada from the app menu and it was sooo good and priced well. Second time I had vegetable quesadilla so I could get my greens in at the same time as my cheese fix. Usually other places make them with the tortilla too soft and the vegetables fall everywhere and it's greasy n gross, but here the tortilla was crunchy and the vegetables were seasoned perfectly. Even the cauliflower, which usually I push aside. Great service. Server shook our hands on the way out! We appreciated this. And he offered us coffee and dessert. Even if this was probably to bump his sales up, its nice to be offered these things, instead of feeling like they're ready to turn your table asap. Amazing busser that seemed to be able to read our thoughts before we had a chance to think of wanting a refill or more insane salsa. He was there both times and he was spot on both times. The ambiance is very relaxed, but when we were there for dinner they had candle lights on every table which is a nice touch. I'm new to the area, so I'm happy to have found our new go-to Mexican restaurant ;)

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN! This was one of the most satisfying mexican food joints I have ever been to! The service is great AND they get festive for HALLOWEEN! Although I haven't been during karaoke night the friendly waitress told me that there are karaoke nights on thursdays which is AWESOME. The food is hearty and high quality and at such reasonable prices. I absolutely loved the Korean Tacos as well as their enchiladas! I am obsessed and since I live so close to this joint, you can be sure I will be coming back over and over again!

Usually pretty good but don't bother going for "margarita mondays". Understaffed. 15 mins and no drink order isn't okay under any circumstance. Food is usually great, wouldn't know tonight, we walked out. Thanks for the free chips and salsa. I guess I am just picky, if you work based on tips, why are you gonna screw up right out of the gate?

I attended a retirement dinner/celebration for a coworker at this lovely spot yesterday July 17, 2010. There is plenty of free parking in the lot on site. (Yes!!) Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted at the door with a smile by a very nice hostess. No standing around waiting for someone to acknowledge you. :) Our group had the side room. It was wonderfully decorated. There were about 50 people at the party. We were allowed to bring our own music (somebody brought a nice CD player with 2 speakers and rocked the house!) I was pleasantly surprised by the interior, which is comfortable and cheery. There is a small bar in the front as you first walk in - fully stocked ;) and a regular restaurant in the middle of the space. Here's the best part: After everyone was seated, laughing and chatting up a storm (some had a frosty drink in hand) the servers passed out the menus. We were able to order 2 entrees from the menu. It took 10 minutes MAX for the food to start coming out, piping hot and beautifully presented! Everyone had been served within 15 minutes. I had chile relleno and a cheese enchilada. It came with delectable rice and beans, and any condiments you wanted. A good time was had by all and I highly recommend this restaurant.

Not bad, not great either. The carne asada was a little fatty but it had good flavor.

Great to know a good local place that's open late with great food and super service. And really good margaritas. Beats the margaritas at the Acapulco in San Pedro hands down. The server could not have been nicer and the margaritas and food arrived quickly - thankfully because we came in around 9pm and were starving. As we were leaving more people were showing up, so the late dining crowd must know about this place. We really enjoyed our food and I'm sure we'll be back again.

We have eaten here twice since the place changed hands/names. The first time I remember liking the food and also it was mariachi night which was very entertaining. Our kids really enjoyed the music and were up dancing. Last week we went on a whim when I discovered the chicken I had planned on cooking had gone bad before it's sell-by date. Their chips are passable and salsa is quite good. Not too spicy but spicy enough. I ordered shrimp tacos and they were very good. My husband ordered something with mole sauce and I thought the sauce tasted like burnt chocolate chips but he thought it was good enough to eat half and save the other half for lunch. Their guacamole is decent and seems to be freshly made with no fillers. We also ordered a tamale and it was horrid. Do not order the tamales here. They served it out of the husk and it was a strange brownish color and very, very dry. The tamales from that street vendor who wanders the neighborhood daily are much better, as are the ones they sell outside of church some weekends. Our kids had a chicken quesadilla that was decent. (Order the appetizer quesadilla because the kids' menu version comes with french fries.) Their iced tea is fresh brewed but flavored. Incidentally it happened to be karaoke night which was kind of fun. Our kids were excited about seeing people get up and sing (not us.) The only down side is that the only TV we could see from our table was used for the karaoke lyrics, so bye-bye Dodgers game.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
